Your treating team in hospital: teenagers
Hospitals can be overwhelming and there can be a lot of different doctors and nurses doing different jobs. We give you an overview of who will treat you in hospital.

Who will be treating me in hospital?
If you’ve just been diagnosed with cancer, or about to be admitted into hospital you might be wondering who will treat you. Understanding who does what in a cancer treatment team can be challenging and sometimes overwhelming.
Here’s an overview of what each person’s job is:
An Oncologist is a doctor specialising in cancer. There are three varieties of these:

There may also be people like physiotherapists, music therapists or dietitians who are there to help with some of the challenges or side effects of treatment. These people can form what is called a Multidisciplinary Team (or MDT), a team of professionals from all different areas working together to make sure each young person is getting the best possible care.
Other support – Redkite
You and your parents will be introduced to Redkite. The myRedkite portal is where young people with cancer, their families, and those connected to them can access Redkite’s support services.
It’s your personal portal to access Redkite services such as counselling for both adults and children, which provides a safe space for open, honest, and reassuring discussions about what you are going through.
Redkite’s team of social workers are childhood cancer specialists and are here to support you and everyone affected, from the time of diagnosis, throughout treatment and beyond.

We have a range of information on our website that can help you better understand and support a family throughout their childhood cancer experience.
Supporting you
We help extended family members and friends face the emotional effects of childhood cancer by providing free counselling, social work and more.
Helping you help them
Redkite’s mobile app, KiteCrew, is a tool you can use to help a family with the day-to-day tasks that are left behind when they’re focused on their child’s care.
