How it works

Cancer is sudden and unexpected, and something no one saves up for. If money becomes tight, Redkite can help.

Who’s it for?

Parents, guardians, and carers of a child with cancer, or independent teenagers (aged 16-18) diagnosed with cancer.

What can Redkite pay for?

Rent, mortgage, groceries, petrol, electricity, phone bills, and more.

When can funds be accessed?

From the time of diagnosis until 12 months after treatment ends.

How are funds accessed?

Through our online portal called myRedkite.

Redkite was there for us when we were thrust into a world of unknowns. The offers of financial support eased our minds so we could focus on Vinny. They say it takes a village to raise a child but that takes on a whole new meaning when raising a child with cancer.

Levels of support

We have different levels of financial assistance to suit different needs.

What can we help pay for?

  • Essential household bills such as mobile phone bills, electricity, and internet
  • Car registration and insurance
  • Rent and mortgage
  • Accommodation for treatment, like hotel costs
  • Groceries and petrol

What is myRedkite?

myRedkite is an online portal where families can access Redkite’s support services, including our Financial Assistance program. It makes it simple to apply for and manage funds anywhere, at any time.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Parents, guardians, and carers of a child or teenager (aged 0-18) who has been diagnosed with cancer
  • Independent teenagers (aged 16-18) diagnosed with cancer who manage their own finances

Each family is eligible for ONE set of funding. This means only one person per family can apply. Special considerations can be made for split households. A child or teenager’s cancer diagnosis must be confirmed before the funds can be given.

Eligible families can receive financial assistance after they have signed up to myRedkite, followed the application process, and have had their child’s diagnosis confirmed by their treatment centre.

Financial assistance is available from the time of diagnosis, during treatment, and for up to 12 months after treatment has finished. Families can apply for more funds every 12 months from the date they first registered for financial assistance.

To ensure that we support the families that need us most, we re-assess eligibility for financial assistance every 12 months.

The funding that is given to families expires 12 months after they first register for assistance. Families are notified by email when their funding is close to expiring. The expiration date can also be seen at all times in the ‘Financial Assistance’ section of the myRedkite online portal.

You can call us on 1800 733 548, Monday-Friday from 9am-7pm (AEST), or email us anytime at support@redkite.org.au.
