Making a huge difference in 24-hours

Timmy conquered an amazing feat to raise funds for Redkite. Find out what he did for a whole 24-hours!

Making a huge difference in 24-hours

A family’s life can be changed completely in as little as 24-hours when their child is diagnosed with cancer. This is unfortunately what Jamie and Rebekah found out when their 10-year-old son, Khye, was diagnosed. Redkite was there from the start to support Jamie, Rebekah and Khye who had to travel for Khye’s treatment. Jamie and his family received grocery and fuel vouchers, and mental health support for the whole family.

Jamie’s friend, Timmy, was moved by their story and wanted to help give back to Redkite. Timmy  created a challenge that his community could get around. He realised a community can also make a great impact in 24-hours. Timmy had pledged to run continuously for 24-hours on a treadmill at his local gym. And just like that, the 24 Challenge was born.

I  jumped at the chance to get behind Redkite.

After months of training, in November 2023 Timmy jumped on the treadmill and began his 24-hour run with friends, family, and community by his side. Jamie and his family, including Khye, all took turns running. Jamie completed the last hour side-by-side with Timmy, finishing the mammoth event together. After 24-hours of running, Timmy had covered 204.8kms and raised over $32,000 for Redkite.

When reminiscing on his amazing achievement, Timmy remembers the support he received from the community most. It was such a proud moment when all ten treadmills were full of people rallying around Redkite, and Jamie and his family. People were so inspired by Timmy’s commitment they donated more than their original pledge, helping smash the original fundraising goal. Local and national coverage was also so important to help spread the word about the 24 Challenge. A huge thank you to all the people who supported and donated to Timmy or were there in person to cheer him on.

“I couldn’t thank those who helped me enough! Every donation and word of encouragement helped me complete the challenge. We did it together.”
