The Malcolm Sargent Cancer Fund for Children in Australia

Redkite was originally called The Malcolm Sargent Cancer Fund for Children in Australia. The organisation was inspired by Sir Malcolm Sargent’s vision to support children with cancer.

Founding the Malcolm Sargent Cancer Fund for Children

In Australia, Sir Malcolm Sargent’s vision was made a reality by the trustees of the Malcolm Sargent Cancer Fund for Children of the UK.

The trustees established three organisations in Australia that shared the same vision, objectives and commitment to supporting children with cancer:
  • The Malcolm Sargent Cancer Fund for Children in Australia was established in August 1983 in New South Wales and later expanded into Queensland in 2001.
  • The Malcolm Sargent Cancer Fund for Children Victoria was established in August 1989.
  • The Malcolm Sargent Cancer Fund for Children Western Australia was established in May 1991.

Consolidation and name change to Redkite

To ensure that the same level of service could be delivered to families across Australia, these three organisations then consolidated into one national organisation under the name Redkite.
  • In 2003 the Malcolm Sargent Cancer Fund for Children in Australia moved from a trust structure to a corporate structure (ABN 65 104 710 787)
  • In 2005, the Malcolm Sargent Cancer Fund for Children (Western Australia) ACN 050 517 621, merged with the Malcolm Sargent Cancer Fund for Children in Australia.
  • In August 2005 the Malcolm Sargent Cancer Fund for Children in Australia started trading as Redkite
  • In 2007, the Malcolm Sargent Cancer Fund for Children (Victoria) ACN 007 297 994, merged with the Malcolm Sargent Cancer Fund for Children in Australia which was trading as Redkite
  • In October 2010 the Malcolm Sargent Cancer Fund for Children in Australia (ABN 65 104 710 787) changed its name to Redkite (ABN 65 104 710 787).
