Adrian finds strength through adversity

Sports-mad Adrian had just been offered his dream job with the AFL when he was diagnosed with cancer. Just two days before Christmas, Adrian began chemotherapy followed by intensive radiotherapy.

Adrian says “I was doing alright with chemotherapy but it made me sick and I had a major fear of needles. In the end it got really tough. Quite unbearable to be honest.”

Adrian's aims for personal best during treatment

A friend of Adrian’s connected him with Redkite who gave him professional emotional support.

“The team at Redkite were my best friends throughout my cancer treatment. I wouldn’t have been able to get through it without their constant check-ins,” says Adrian.

When Adrian finished treatment he also received a Redkite Education Grant to help cover his university expenses. This meant he could focus on his recovery.

After rehabilitation, Adrian decided to fundraise for Redkite by taking on the Tough Mudder. He raised almost $2,000 for Redkite, and completed the challenge with a personal best!

“It was probably the best run I’ve ever had and I was feeling really strong. My rehabilitation really helped me to get my body back to what it was – and possibly even better.”
