What to Expect from Redkite Counselling
Redkite provides FREE counselling for adults and children. You can talk to us once or twice, or more often if you need. It’s up to you.
Who’s it for?
Counselling is available for children and teens (aged 0-18) diagnosed with cancer, their parents, carers, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, teachers, and the extended community.
What happens in a counselling session?
You decide what you want to talk about – you set the agenda and the pace. It’s also completely confidential. Our social worker will begin by getting to know you, spend time chatting to you about the things that are on your mind and, if you like, will set a time to meet you again in future.
Where do I go for counselling?
Counselling is available over the phone or online using Microsoft Teams. We can also meet face-to-face at one of our Redkite offices.

Counselling: “I had a lot of words I needed to say”
“I just found that I had a lot of words I needed to say, that I needed to say them to someone that I didn’t know. I just needed to get it all off my chest and have a cry and move forward from it a little bit.”

Kid’s Cancer Conversations: How to deal with kids asking tough questions
“The toughest question that I got from Emily, literally within 24 hours of diagnosis was, am I going to die just like daddy?”
Melanie’s daughter Emily was just six years old when she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.
Who will I talk to?
Our social workers are childhood cancer specialists. They have the experience to support you in the way that works best for you, and they genuinely care. They’ve been there for countless adults and children throughout their cancer experience, and they’re here for you too.
We want you to connect with the social worker who works best for you. So, if you want to talk to the same person, we will do our best to book you with them for all of your counselling sessions.
