Dare to Dream Scholarship: what other parents say

Since 2013, Coles have awarded 375 scholarships worth over $750,000. Here, some parents share how the scholarship has helped their teenage child work towards their dreams.

1 – It helped them feel hopeful, excited and inspired

‘He was thrilled and it lifted his spirits during his isolation.’

It gave him some hope, and he was so happy to achieve something after being through so much and trying to live a very new normal.’

‘[It had] a slowly building positive impact at school and in keeping his mind active in personal time.’

‘She had something to look forward to/live/fight for.’

2 – It helped them receive tools or training they would not have been able to afford

‘[It gave her the] opportunity to do something which is costly but gave her experience to pursue her passion.’

‘[It gave her] something to look forward to that we couldn’t afford to purchase as I had to give up my casual job for 12 months.’

‘[It gave us] access to music equipment we would not have been able to afford.’

3 – It helped them to feel seen and supported

‘She felt supported in her dreams, knowing that people understand what she has been through and want to support her.’

‘[It was valuable to be given] support for a difficult time and recognition for the immensity of a child going through cancer.’

‘[They were] happy to receive some support to achieve a lifelong goal.’
