Thanks to you, dads are even better together

When Karl’s seven-year-old son Richie was diagnosed with a rare childhood cancer, he struggled to talk about how he was feeling.

Having a child with cancer is heartbreaking for every parent. But dads may have unique challenges that aren’t always addressed by existing support services. Men can find it hard to open up and ask for help.

Because mums often give up work to care for their child, dads who keep working can feel left out of their child’s cancer journey and often receive second-hand information.

“I was trying to be a rock for my kids.
I would bottle everything up and then go to bed crying.”

That’s why Redkite, with the help of your kindness, has set up Dads Connect groups. They’re safe places where men can share what they are going through and support each other

Karl wanted you to know: “It was really good to speak to people who are in the same boat. It helped me stay positive. Thank you.
