Isabella shaves her head in support of Redkite
While receiving treatment at Westmead Children’s Hospital, eight-year-old Isabella shaves her head to thank those who have supported her throughout her cancer experience.
Isabella is a lively and sporty 8-year-old girl. Playing soccer, Oztag, Touch football, athletics & her biggest passion is horse riding, competing often with her horse. But it was in April this year that Isabella began to complain about pain in her leg. After visits to 2 doctors with no answers and Isabella experiencing the pain spreading, Natalie just knew that something wasn’t right.
“My mother’s instinct just kicked in,” Natalie said.
They took Isabella to Westmead Children’s Hospital and after six days undergoing numerous tests that they found fluid in Isabella’s hip. Further testing found that Isabella had Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH), a rare and aggressive form of cancer, was present in her leg, hip, and the bottom of her spine. Isabella immediately began treatment.
COVID has been a hard year for many, but more so for a family facing childhood cancer. Isabella has been back and forth from hospital for 5 months checking temperature spikes and other smaller health issues all with the threat of COVID adding additional pressure to an already challenging experience.
But far from losing her spirit, Isabella wanted to do something special.
After receiving numerous treatments including a blood transfusion, Isabella approached her mum and asked for help to raise money for the charities who have supported her throughout her treatment. Natalie was astounded and incredibly proud.
Surrounded by her family and friends, a hairdresser, and a barber, Isabella shaved her head and was able to raise and donate an amazing $20,000.00 to 4 charities, with Redkite receiving $5000 from her event.
Since the event Isabella has been able to go back to school and is again, following her adventurous passions by taking up horse riding again.
