Brisbane mates take on 24-hour Golf Challenge for Redkite

Today, Wednesday 26 May, a group of Brisbane golfing mates, led by Cricket Australia’s Lachlan Begg, are putting themselves through a gruelling 24-hour Golf Challenge to raise vital funds for Redkite.

The team of Lachlan Begg, Chris Burgess, Brandon Mitchell and Adam Thompson, along with golf pros Tim Lynch, Anthony Newey and Tim Porter from Victoria Park, are all passionate about supporting families who are facing childhood cancer.

Having teed-off at 10am this morning, the team are playing golf non-stop for 24 hours at Brisbane’s hilliest course, Victoria Park Golf Complex, without the use of motorised carts. When darkness falls, they will change to fluorescent balls that glow in the dark and play throughout the night.

Lachlan Begg has been a great supporter of Redkite since 2017 and has taken part in other out-of-the-box challenges to raise funds. Celebrating his fiftieth birthday this year, he wanted to do something meaningful to mark the event. COVID-19 prevented him from undertaking the 24-hour challenge in Scandinavia or Iceland as previously planned, so the historic Victoria Park Course was chosen instead.

“While this 24-hour Golf Challenge is mentally and physically tough, it’s a walk in the park compared to the challenges faced by families experiencing childhood cancer. Our efforts will help fund Redkite’s crucial work supporting children and their families through their cancer journeys,” said Mr Begg.
