Support for young people

Being diagnosed with cancer is a big thing and it can mean enormous change to your life, your family and your friends. You may feel angry, sad or worried about treatment, missing studies or work and increased expenses.

Redkite supports teenagers and young adults up to the age of 24. We attempt to reduce the sense of isolation that can often be felt by providing a range of support services.

Support while in hospital

Redkite Social Workers can provide you with support, counselling and information. They can let you know if there is a Redkite Music Therapist in your hospital.

Financial assistance

Redkite understands cancer and its treatment can bring financial strain, causing additional stress at a difficult time. Redkite financial assistance can help you with expenses such as household bills, petrol and food. Please contact your social worker for more information.

Ongoing support

  • Telephone support and email support are available no matter where in Australia you are.
  • Telegroups are professionally facilitated groups which bring people together over the phone.
  • Family days offer the opportunity to spend time together away from hospital and treatment regimes.
  • Bereavement support is available to parents, partners, siblings and grandparents.

Education assistance

Redkite can help you keep up with your studies and interests. Education grants can assist with tutoring and class costs. Please contact your social worker for more information. Redkite Dare to Dream Scholarships are available for 15 to 24 year olds who have cancer or who are cancer survivors. The scholarship program supports young people whose eduction, studies, employment or special interests may have been impacted by cancer.
