![]() Redkite is the largest non-government funder of professional oncology social work services in children’s hospitals and specific adolescent and young adult (AYA) treatment centres across Australia, funding 30 per cent of paediatric oncology social workers in children’s hospitals (11 positions in 9 hospitals). Social workers support families through their adjustment to the many challenges of a cancer experience through the provision of counselling support, information, education and practical support. Oncology social workers discuss with families the support options available through Redkite. Your social worker can provide you with information about Redkite’s Financial Assistance Program, Education Grants and Scholarships, Red Bags and Telegroups. Some young people and families do not have access to social work support in their treatment centre. Redkite offers Telephone and Email Support services where Redkite Counsellors provide counselling, information, education and resources for young people (up to the age of 24) and families from diagnosis, throughout treatment and when returning home. This service is staffed by professional social workers who have significant experience working with young people with cancer and families facing childhood cancer.
