Dare to Dream Scholarships closing soon

Redkite will soon be selecting 30 remarkable young people to receive Dare to Dream Scholarships. The Redkite Scholarship program is open to young people aged between 16 and 24 who have had cancer at some point in their lives. It aims to help them pursue their goals and fulfil their dreams.

Nominations and applications for the Redkite Dare to Dream Scholarships will close on Monday 5 July.

Redkite Scholarships range from $500 to $5000. Past recipients have used their Redkite Scholarship to fund further education, textbooks, course fees, laptops, art equipment, cameras and even particular projects such as the production of a DVD. 

Last year’s National Scholarship recipient, Christine Ciaglia (pictured), used her $5000 award to help fund her university degree.

Christine was just one when she was diagnosed with cancer on her spine. She underwent years of treatment and hardship that included chemotherapy and intensive surgery. She was required to wear a back brace for over a year and was practically immobile during this time.

Cancer treatment is particularly tough for children and young people. It’s often long and gruelling, and like Christine's, can last for years, making it hard to keep to up with studies, friends, passions and work.

When Christine was awarded the National Dare to Dream Scholarship in 2009, she was 21. She was still feeling the impact of her cancer and suffering extreme back pain. Christine was, however, determined to achieve success and pursuing a career in graphic design and starting a university degree.

“Being selected as the National winner of the Redkite Scholarship has taken a huge weight off my shoulders and has also taken me a step forward to reaching my dreams,” said Christine. “Words cannot explain how much it means to be given such a wonderful opportunity at this stage of my life.”
