Monday 16 January 2012 Twenty-nine young people are today finding out they have been awarded Redkite Dare to Dream Scholarships.
Scholarship applicants are being contacted by phone and mail to let them know they have been successful. “It’s a good feeling to deliver that news,” says Emilia Armytage, National Manager Financial and Material support, who has been calling scholarship recipients. “Some of the recipients have been lost for words. 'Wow' has been a word I've heard a lot today. One person told me 'you've made my year'".
Each year an outstanding applicant is selected to receive the prestigious National Redkite Dare to Dream Scholarship. Redkite can reveal the successful applicant is Olivia, a 17-year-old based in Victoria who will put her scholarship towards equipment while she pursues a career in fashion photography.
Redkite Dare to Dream Scholarships can be used not only for studies but also career goals or interest areas such as sport and music. The scholarships are designed to help young people catch up on missed study or work or pursue new dreams discovered through the cancer journey.
Young cancer survivors and those still undergoing treatment who were aged between 15 and 24 were invited to apply for scholarships in 2011. “We wound up receiving applications from across Australia and more than we’ve ever received before,” notes Emilia.
During 2012, Redkite will review its annual scholarships program to make education assistance even more accessible for teenagers and young adults.
