Friday 8 June 2012 Redkite experienced the highest ever demand for its financial assistance during May. Over $89,000 was provided to help families cope with essential expenses such as food, travel to and from hospital and utility bills.
"We are so pleased we've been able to provide this vital support to families and that more people know we're here for them," says Emilia Armytage, Redkite's National Manager Financial and Material Support.
To help familes receive financial assistance and other vital support from Redkite, please donate to the Redkite Chairman's Appeal. We're hoping to raise $140,000 by June 30.
When a child or young person has cancer, family income decreases at a time when costs increase. "Financial assistance is essential for many families," says Emilia. "Parents stop work to care for their sick child and lose income but also need to cope with new expenses such as accommodation near hospital. For young people with cancer living away from home, the financial impact can be severe."
"The record high demand for financial assistance that we're experiencing demonstrates the importance of this appeal," says Kelly Clarke, Redkite General Manager Campaign and Events. "We're expecting over 200 children and young people will be diagnosed with cancer in the next six weeks and it's absolutely critical we're there for them."
