Mark puts himself to the test for Redkite

Mark Fletcher is taking part in the Nissan/BRW Triathlon Series for RedkiteMark Fletcher and his family from Mitcham in Victoria know what it’s like to be affected by cancer. That’s why Mark will be competing in a series of triathlons and marathons to help raise funds for Redkite to support children and young people through cancer.

“Over the last five years I have lost both my parents to cancer and being a father to two children myself, I can’t imagine what parents go through whose child is diagnosed with cancer,” explains Mark. “That’s why I am fundraising for Redkite.

“I will be putting myself to the test in a series of endurance events. I will be competing in the Gatorade Triathlon series and the Nissan/BRW Triathlon Series in February with future commitments including the 2010 Melbourne Marathon, the London Triathlon in August and the WA Ironman in Busselton at the end of the year.

Mark trains at least six or seven days a week, quite often twice a day. His determination is inspiring and despite recently breaking his toe, Mark is determined to continue to race.

Redkite is the preferred charity for the Nissan/BRW Triathlon Series, and many of Mark’s work colleagues from Downer EDI Works will be also taking part in the event to help raise funds for Redkite.

Giovina Cicchitti from Redkite is touched by Mark’s dedication, saying, “Mark is such an amazing person. Redkite receives no government funding so it is the generosity of people like Mark who enable us to provide essential and practical support to families in need.

“We are very excited for Mark and wish him well for his events. We will be cheering him on from the sidelines at the Nissan/BRW Triathlon here in Melbourne.”

Mark has raised $2000 for Redkite so far. To support Mark, please visit www.everydayhero.com.au/mark_fletcher.
