Redkite volunteer Santiago's City2Surf mission

Redkite volunteer Santiago is one the many Sydneysiders who will be running the City2Surf for Redkite this Sunday. Here, he talks about his motivations behind volunteering for Redkite and taking on "Heartbreak Hill."

"Charity work is very valuable for me. It’s a way to

be thankful for everything I have and an opportunity

Santiago Races for Redkite

to help build a better society. I was drawn to Redkite in particular because of its mission, and the different events it organises to fundraise and support children and young people facing cancer.

The best thing about volunteering at Redkite is the knowledge that my work is helping people in need in a really tangible way. And I love going into Redkite’s offices every week because of the people who work there. All of them are very friendly and

welcoming.

My goal is to help support Redkite families in any way I can. For example, by helping to organise events, or running the City2Surf! I’m really looking forward to running the City2Surf for the first time, actually. I’ve done other fun runs before but they were shorter, so the big challenge for me will be finishing… Let’s see what happens!

My family and friends have been really supportive of me taking on the challenge of running for Redkite. A few have even donated to my Everyday Hero page, which has really encouraged me to continue working for good causes."

On Sunday, Santiago will be joined on the road by runners from Redkite's corporate partners like Coles, BOC and PPB Advisory. Redkite will also be entering a team of our own!

You can support Redkite runners by donating at the Redkite team page. If you see us on the track on Sunday, be sure to give us an extra cheer!
