Kite surfers ride high for Redkite!

Kitesurfing downwinder event - Redkite's Deborah Hill and organiser Justin O'MalleyMembers of the WA Kite Surfing Association took to the water and sky between Leighton and Brighton Beach in perth in December for the charity “Downwinder” event, raising almost $12,500 for Redkite.

Leeming resident and talented kite surfer, Alty Frisby, was amongst a fleet of 68 participants who took part. Alty met his fundraising target of $1000 with the support of his family and friends.

As a father, Alty’s heart goes out to children and families dealing with cancer, saying: “It is great to be able to do something to help, even if it is in a small way.

“Kite surfing is a fun and exciting sport – one that I have participated in all around the world. Wherever I have gone, kite surfers have been a really friendly, helpful bunch of people and after today, it would seem that it extends beyond the kiting community.

“I am proud to be a member of a group that is not only passionate about their sport, but also willing to go out of their way to help others.”

Deborah Hill from Redkite said: “We are thrilled at this novel and adventurous way to fundraise for Redkite. We receive no government funding and rely entirely on community support so we are grateful to Alty for raising awareness about Redkite’s vital services.”
