When a child suffers from cancer, their whole family is affected. Studies show that grandparents often carry an emotional burden which is two-fold: for their children and their grandchildren.Redkite is proud to be launching a Grandparents' Telegroup. It will provide a place where grandparents can come together over the phone, share stories, normalise their feelings and find support from other grandparents going through similar experiences. From the devastating moment of diagnosis, grandparents often play a significant caring and practical support role in their families. “Grandparents are often the silent carers, quietly supporting parents as they manage the enormous challenges confronting their families at this time,” said Leigh Kurth Redkite Services Manager. “Coming together in a telegroup is an ideal way for grandparents to meet, talk with their peers and receive comfort from those who really understand.” All Redkite telegroups are facilitated by qualified social workers who are experienced working with families of children diagnosed with cancer. Social workers can also provide individual support by phone or email to grandparents wherever they live across Australia. Redkite provides support for children and young people with cancer and for their whole family.
