Fly the Redkite news



Help us #FlyTheRedkite. Today, only 45% of people in Australia have heard of Redkite and far fewer understand how we can support children and young people with cancer and their families. We've launched the Fly the Redkite campaign to raise awareness of Redkite. It includes radio, print and TV advertisements.

December 2014 Our television commercial is now running in donated timeslots on major TV stations. The script, written by Redkite supporter Fiona Day, is a very moving tribute to the importance of family, and we'd like to share it with you.

December 2014 We were so proud to have been involved in the Tropfest and Trop Jr events at the beginning of December, where our new television advertisement was shown in between the entries of the talented filmmakers.

November 2014 Redkite Ambassador Susanne Latimore appears in the Christmas issue of the Australian Women's Weekly, to promote the Fly the Redkite campaign and share the lessons she learned during her son's cancer journey.

Josie and her family come together

October 2014 Redkite team member Josie was approached to appear in the television commercial's opening scene. She gathered her whole family together and they had lunch on camera for the video. 

Les and Joel add star power

October 2014 Long-time Redkite ambassador and actor Les Hill gathered some of his industry friends to help with this campaign, including actor Joel Edgerton, who voiced the online video, TV and radio advertisements, and Family Flashback.

Coles hacks to help

October 2014 Coles generously sponsored a hackathon in March so we could find the perfect digital concept to bring people together around the main campaign video. The winning concept was developed into the Family Flashback.

October 2014 Mike Porter is the managing director of Unity Communications, a media agency that has been generously volunteering their time to Redkite since 2011 to secure donated media space for our campaigns.

Fiona and Jeff's vision to celebrate families

October 2014 Fiona Day and Jeff Mackay are the ‘Dream Team’ behind the campaign concept and have volunteered countless weekends and late nights this year filming ballet performances, bubble fights and backyard soccer matches.
