FAQs about telegroups

What are Telegroups?

Telegroups are telephone based support groups available for young people with cancer and their family members throughout Australia.

Groups of up to six people meet together on the telephone for one hour each week over an eight week period.

Redkite counsellors with experience working with young people with cancer and their families, facilitate the groups. Each week a new theme is explored through participants sharing stories, coping strategies and education around key issues.

Why do Redkite Telegroups exist?

Direct consultation with parents, young people diagnosed with cancer, oncology social workers and other stakeholders, as well as evidence in literature, tells us that families of children diagnosed and treated in Australia (and globally) often feel a sense of isolation and lack of support within their own communities.

Telegroups enable the development of skills, strengths and support by sharing ideas and experiences with other people who are going through similar things.

Redkite Telegroups are based on well established and proven telephone group work models, in particular the model developed by Carers NSW.
