Local resident opens Earimil Gardens to the public for Redkite

Local Mt Eliza resident, Elaine Smith, will again open her award winning Earimil Gardens to the public for an Open Day weekend on Saturday, 14th and Sunday, 15th November to help raise vital funds for children’s charities including Redkite.

Earimil Gardens is one of the most visited gardens in Australia and Elaine delights in opening it to the public and sharing her gardening tips, all to raise funds for her nominated charities. Elaine has been recognised by the Queen in her Birthday Honours with an Order of Australia (OAM) for service to the community through philanthropic contributions to charities.

Earimil Gardens is Elaine’s  “Labour of Love”. Originally, an overgrown three acre property on a cliff top overlooking Port Phillip Bay, Elaine has worked tirelessly for more than 16 years to develop and maintain the beauty and breadth of her garden and prides on opening it to the public for them to enjoy.

Elaine has raised an amazing $626,000 for children’s charities including Redkite that supports children and young people with cancer and their families.

“Elaine’s dedication and generosity has raised more than $255,500 for Redkite’s essential support services which will help to provide real and practical help to families wherever they live in Australia such as financial assistance, telephone and email counselling and education support,” explained Redkite’s Giovina Cicchitti. “This allows families to focus their attention where it is needed most - on their sick child.”
