Sydney sparkles at Colour Ball

Sydneysiders sparkled at the Silver Lining Colour Ball on Saturday 17 July. Over 500 people filled The Hilton’s Grand Ball Room for a sold out evening of cocktails, canapés and dancing to raise vital funds for Redkite.

Since its inception in 2000, the annual Colour Ball has raised $850,000 for Redkite. This year’s Ball raised $116,000: enough for Redkite to provide financial, emotional and educational support services to around 46 families for 12 months.

The annual Colour Ball is organised for Redkite by the Yes for Kids (Y4K) Committee and has a different colour theme each year. This year’s theme ‘Silver Lining’ was embraced by guests with silver dresses, glittering hats and accessories. Next year’s theme will be ‘Rapt in Ruby’.

Scott Dooley from Nova 969 was fantastic as MC on the night.

“I’m a great supporter of Redkite having been involved in their celebrity AFL match for the past five years. This year I was really honoured to be asked to MC their Colour Ball,” Scott said.

Guest speaker Christine shared with Colour Ball guests her experience with cancer. Christine was diagnosed with cancer when she was only one and still lives with the impacts of her gruelling treatment. Christine was the 2009 Redkite National Scholarship winner and her courage and optimism touched guests and highlighted the importance of Redkite’s support services.

Colour Ball's generous sponsors donated silent auction items and raffle and door prizes. Prizes won on the night included tickets to Powderfinger’s last show and a trip to Hamilton Island.

Redkite receives no government funding. Donations raised by events such as Colour Ball help Redkite provide essential emotional, financial and educational support to children and young people with cancer and their families through the long and difficult cancer journey.
