Celebrities score goals for Redkite

Crowds at the SCG cheered on their favourite celebrities as they took to the AFL pitch in support of children’s cancer charity Redkite.

The famous faces who took part not only laced up their footy boots to raise awareness for Redkite but also went to head to head with other celebrities. Adam Spencer who captained a team took on Merrick Watts from Nova and Tony Squires from Vega, Les Hill from Underbelly 1 battled it out against Peter Phelps (Underbelly 2), Angus McLaren joined forces with his Packed to the Rafters cast mate George Houvardos, and Humphrey B Bear tussled with Redkite’s very own Kiteman!

The Celebrity AFL Game acted as an entertaining curtain raiser to the Sydney Swan’s vs. Port Adelaide match and over 200 families supported by Redkite attended the day to enjoy a host of activities including a special lunch and to cheer on the celebrities and the Swans from the sidelines.

Merrick Watts was thrilled that he managed to score a goal and that his team won on the day. Merrick said: “It is a great honour to win the celebrity game two years running, but the true winner is Redkite who managed to get some of the slowest movers in the country to give their best for a great cause.”

Adam Spencer added: “The Celebrity Game is a great day to run around and let people know about the fantastic work that Redkite does. It is always an honour to help.”

The Sydney Swans are long term supporters of Redkite and are committed to helping children and young people with cancer and their families through the difficult cancer journey. Redkite supports families by providing essential emotional, financial and educational assistance.
