Brightexpectations runs the race of its life for Redkite

Brightexpectations with Gai Waterhouse meets children with cancer supported by Redkite Brightexpectations, a horse racing in the Golden Slipper on Saturday, 3 April may not have come first, but it was a class act, raising much-needed awareness for Redkite.

The race saw jockey Nash Rawiller taking the reigns as he rode Gai Waterhouse’s Brightexpectations in what was a nail biting race.

Racing NSW generously committed to donating $250,000 of their prize winnings if Bright Expectations took first place. Tabcorp also threw its support behind Redkite by donating $125,000 should the horse win.

Jane Endacott, Redkite’s General Manager of Fundraising and Marketing said: “Thank you to Racing NSW and Tabcorp for their generosity of choosing to donate up to $375,000 of the winnings to Redkite to help children and young people with cancer and their families.

“Although Brightexpectations did not take out first place, we were thrilled to be given such a fantastic opportunity to build awareness about Redkite's vital support for families in need - both in the hospital and the community.

“Redkite was nominated as the charity for Racing’s Night of Champions Awards night many years ago and it was through that relationship that other individuals within the NSW Racing community have been inspired by the services that Redkite provides. We are extremely grateful for their support.”

The Golden Slipper took place on Saturday, 3 April at Rosehill Gardens.
