Bereaved parents supported by Redkite Telegroup

Redkite Bereavement TelegroupThe first Redkite telegroup for parents who have lost children to cancer began in November 2010. The participants’ consensus: it helped relieve their unique sense of isolation.

The telegroup brought parents together from five states across Australia. “The bereaved parents’ telegroup is a very safe place for parents to feel ‘normal’ once more,” said Linda Brown, co-facilitator of the group and Redkite’s Senior Project and Services Coordinator.

“Participants told us that grief is no longer a lonely place for them. They've shared their experiences and coping strategies with each other and now have a strong network of support that will carry them into the future” said Brown.

As one participant commented:

“Prior to the group I honestly believed that I was broken and would just stay that way.  Now I think part of my heart is broken but I am normal and feel like anyone would.  That is a great gift.”
