Assistance with back-to-studies costs

January 2012
Redkite is ready to provide families with back-to-school financial assistance through its Education Assistance program.

The period leading up to a child or young person's return to study can be expensive. For families on the cancer journey, education costs can come on top of a long list of 'hidden' expenses associated with treatment, such as travel to and from hospital and higher household bills. These expenses can be experienced at a time when many parents have to give up work to care for their children.

In addition, long periods away from studies during treatment can disrupt a child or young person's education, friendships and the development of life skills.

"We don't want to see families struggling with education costs or children and young people missing out on educational activities and falling behind their peers,” says Emilia Armytage, National Manager Financial and Material Support. “We'd like families on the cancer journey who are concerned about keeping a child or young person's education on track to know that Redkite’s assistance is available to them.”

For students up to the age of 24, funds are available for:
  • tutoring
  • materials and equipment such as text books, laptops
  • excursions and school camps
  • sport activities, music lessons and other out-of-school activities
Siblings may also find their studies are disrupted by their brother or sister’s treatment. Education grants may also be available for them.
