Despite facing extreme altitude, severe winds, and cold temperatures, Alison Spencer, 32, from Perth will be tackling the highest mountain in both the Western and Southern Hemispheres – Aconcagua in Argentina – to raise vital funds for Redkite that supports children and young people through cancer.Towering at almost 7000 metres, Aconcagua is the highest mountain in the world outside of Asia and will be no easy feat. However, Alison is determined to reach the summit and raise awareness of Redkite. “Children and young people facing cancer show incredible courage, strength and determination and it is these qualities that I will draw upon as I attempt the summit to Aconcagua,” said Alison. The adventurous climb starting in January will take around 22 days to complete with temperatures reaching in excess of minus 30 degrees Celsius. But Alison is determined to reach the summit. “I am truly inspired by the services that Redkite provides,” Alison explains. “By reaching for the stars, I hope to help and inspire children and young people through the difficult cancer journey.” Redkite’s Jane Endacott said: “Redkite’s focus is to provide families with real and practical support when they need it most and as we receive no government funding, we rely entirely on the generosity of our supporters. “We are very grateful for Alison’s bravery and support to help families all across Australia dealing with childhood cancer. We will all be rallying behind her as she makes her ascent.” To support Alison, please visit www.everydayhero.com.au/reach_for_the_stars or visit www.redkite.org.au. Read more latest news here. |
