Savannah Hibb’s was just two years old when she contracted an aggressive type of Leukemia. Her mother Liz was at the hospital full time during Savannah’s treatment while Savannah’s father Michael was at home juggling his business as a racehorse trainer, looking after their three other children, and making daily visits to the hospital.
The charity Redkite that supports children and young people with cancer helped the Hibbs family through some very trying times. To show their appreciation, the Hibbs family - along with the owners of the race horse Superlatives - have agreed to donate 10 per cent of their winnings to Redkite, donating over $1000 so far. Michael Hibbs said: “We went through a very stressful time and without treatment, Savannah was given a very short time to live. “Redkite was at the coalface by providing us with funds for everyday bills such as phone bills, our rent, and other expenses when it was our hour of need. As a family, we will never forget the contribution Redkite made.” Sharnelle Magee, Coordinator of Redkite’s Financial Assistance Program, said: “A cancer diagnosis has a huge emotional and financial impact on a family. By providing financial assistance, Redkite can at least alleviate some of the stress so families can focus on emotionally supporting their child through what is a very difficult time.” Savannah is now in remission and the family is grateful for the support they received. To show their appreciation, their generous donations will help Redkite support other families going through a similar experience. The Hibbs family is looking forward to more success on the racetrack. |
