Thanks to generous supporters like you, Redkite is reaching families with professional support when they need it most. In 2010 you made it possible for Redkite
to achieve the following:
Financial assistance when needed most
- $668,294 in financial assistance provided to 837 families, 13 per cent more families than in 2009.
- The Exceptional Needs Assistance program was launched to support families facing severe financial difficulties.
Support in hospital
- Redkite’s professional social workers and music therapists continued to support children, young people and families in hospital from the moment of diagnosis and throughout treatment.
- In 2010 Redkite continued to be Australia’s largest non-government funder of social workers and music therapists in children’s cancer wards and specific treatment centres for young people.
Support on return home
- 287 families were provided telephone counselling and email counselling support in 2010. This was nearly twice the number of families who were provided these services in 2009. In addition, contact with families increased by almost 300 per cent in 2010.
- The first telegroup specifically for parents who have lost their children to cancer was launched.
Increased support for young people
- The age range of children and young people with cancer supported by Redkite was extended from 0-21 to 0-24 years of age.
- Redkite Dare to Dream Scholarships were awarded to 28 remarkable young cancer survivors and cancer patients.
- The ‘It’s Like This…’ DVD support tool for teenagers and young people with cancer and their parents was produced in collaboration with CanTeen.
- The Redkite Book Club was expanded to include titles for teenagers and young adults. The Book Club keeps young people and families connected to cancer specific information and resources during treatment.
I'd like to thank all of Redkite's supporters and partners for making these achievements possible. You support makes a real difference.
